Low Cost Wedding Favour Ideas

August 31st, 2010

Wedding favours are very popular gifts for wedding guests and are a great way for the couple to show their appreciation to their guests. They are not essential but are a very traditional feature of weddings. You should budget for them but they can be done very cheaply to save on costs. Some cost effective ideas include:

Using candy tins! Simply buy some candy tins and just place a couple of pieces of delicious candy in them and your guests will love it! Favours boxes with cookies. Very simply, just bake some cookies yourself using your favourite receipe and present them in one of a variety of favour boxes that you can purchase. A simple and effective idea that provides a personal touch. Favourite CDs. Select some of your favourite songs and make a compilation CD to your guests. It’s very easy to print out your own labels with software you can cheaply buy.

Another great idea is to go with seasonal gifts depending on the time of year your wedding is being held. For example, hot chocolate would make a great winter favour gift. Simply make up some powdered milk, baking cocoa and sugar and present everything in a small bag with a ribbon to give to your guests. Again the personal touch will go a long way to earning your guests appreciation.

Another idea would be to give some seed packets of your favourite flower to your guests. Present the seeds in a nice small box or bag and include some basic growing instruction. It’s very environmentally friendly and cheap.

Simply use your imagination to come up with original gift ideas based on your interests or wedding season. Present them in a nice favour box or bag with a ribbon and the favour is complete. This is a great way to make it very personal and it didn’t break the bank!

Cleaning Your Wedding Dress

August 24th, 2010

Most brides spend hundred and even thousands of pounds on their wedding dresses. Dresses are not cheap and are probably the most expensive piece of clothing you will buy during your lifetime. Traditional and with the majority of wedding dresses, they are white or a very light colour like beige. Obviously this means that any marks or dirt will show up more readily.

During the actual wedding, in having a great time and enjoying yourself, your dress will get some dirt on it no matter how careful you are trying to be. Panic not as you can always clean your dress. You can always try and clean the dress yourself but this is not recommended! There are professional dry cleaners who specialise in cleaning wedding dresses.

Wedding dresses are usually substantial garments and therefore cleaning them is a a task in itself. Not only that, the value of wedding dresses means that the dry cleaners do need to cover themselves with insurance in case anything goes wrong. Due to these factors, having your dress dry cleaned is an expensive business. It can cost a couple of hundred pounds and in some cases can cost a percentage of the cost of your dress. I have come across people who were charged 10% of the cost of the dress! A large proportion of this goes towards the insurance.

Once your dress is dry cleaned, then you need a proper dress storage box for it that is the right size and more importantly is pH neutral. This means that there is no acidity or alkalinity within the material of the box. This is important because over time, any acidity or alkalinity can over time degrade the fabric of the dress or discolour it. So, when you have your dress boxed, store it somewhere at room temperature so you avoid wide temperature fluctuations.

The main piece of advice on this site is to invest in getting your dress professionally dry cleaned rather than doing it yourself. Once cleaned, store it properly in a pH neutral dress box.

A Wedding Dress Box vs a Plastic Bag For Your Valuable Dress

August 17th, 2010

When trying to decide what kind of storage to use for your wedding dress, you may be stuck between a proper wedding dress box, or a plastic bag. Let’s take a look at reasons why you should use a proper box instead of a bag.

A Proper Wedding Dress Box

A proper wedding dress box will be acid free (because the acid will break down the fabric and cause discoloration) and will also be pH neutral, because a box that is acid free without being neutral will likely have a reverse alkalinity which will cause the same kind of damage as not having a acid free box. The proper wedding dress box will also be solid with no viewing window, because a viewing window will let light in.

A Plastic Bag

While it may be good to help you get your dress from the store to the seamstress for alterations and to the cleaners after the wedding, using a plastic bag allows light to get to the dress which will break down the fabric and lead to discoloration. In addition to light, the bag will likely be more susceptible to moisture which can cause the dress to mildew and mold. As time goes on, the plastic bag will break down, whereas the proper dress box will stay intact. Chances are the plastic composition of the bag will also contain acids that will break down the fabric.

While it may be more cost effective to store your dress in a bag initially, in the end it will do more harm than good when you go to take out the dress in a few years to give to your daughter, friend, or other loved one to find it ruined with discoloration and weakened fabric.

Save yourself potential heartbreak later and store your dress correctly with an acid free, pH neutral wedding dress box. This way you know your dress will be safe through it all and when it is time to renew those vows, you will be ready to go.

Look good on your wedding day by adopting the wedding weight loss program

August 10th, 2010

The wedding is the most important day in a woman’s life. She should look very stunning. Being overweight can create worries. A particular regime can assist wedding weight loss if adopted to the T. There are several who starve or break all the good eating habits they have in a bid to drop weight. This does not generate the preferred results and the bride looks worried on the special day. Discussed below are a few tips which will help weight loss before the marriage.

Remaining hydrated by consuming water is very good and has to be made a part of our daily routine. It is very important to keep oneself well hydrated. Having hot water will lower body fat, better digestion and flush cellulite. You will also be able to get rid of dark circles under your eyeballs. Having 10 cups of water daily is perfect for wedding weight loss. You can start your day with a cupful of warm water and also always keep a bottleful of water with you whether at home or at work. Walking is equally significant. It is a great method to give the metabolic process a boost. You can start by walking for ten minutes and then increase it slowly. An early morning walk will also make your skin gleam.

You can consume at regular intervals in small proportions. Or else eating too often will increment your weight. And you will look heavy. Your digestive system will be able to manage small meals taken at small time intervals rather that big meals after long gaps. The proportion of food whether meat, carbs or veggies must not be larger than your palm and not thicker than it either. Eat healthy meals even when you get involved in wedding weight loss programs. A typical meal must consist of helpings of a protein, a carbohydrate, a vegetable and a fruit.

You can have your beloved food once in a fortnight to reward yourself for working too hard for wedding weight loss. Eat in quality not amount. This way you will not starve for your beloved food and will not feel impoverished either. This way you can reward yourself.

Hiring a personal trainer or participating in a bridal boot camp which is frequently conducted by celebrities of yesteryears for wedding weight loss is a good idea. Resorting to quick weight loss programs and fad diets will not give you any long term results as they are challenging to uphold. This will also set up a base for yo yo dieting. There will be no enduring weight loss. There are many cases where brides have lost 5 to 8 pounds before their marriage and gained most of it back after a week of cruising for honeymoon.

Choosing the Right Wedding Favour

July 27th, 2010

Wedding favours are a very popular feature of weddings and a much loved tradition. Choosing the right one for your wedding can be difficult and a daunting task especially if you are working to a budget, probably one which is already well stretched!

When trying to decide what favours to have, don’t rush, there is time if you plan ahead and it should be a fun thing to do. Here we have some great tips for you.

Colours and Themes

The obvious question to ask is whether you have a specific colour scheme for your wedding or a theme. If you have a specific scheme, you can pick your favours that compliment your theme and brings everything together.

Mood

The type of favour you decide upon may also depend on how formal or casual your wedding is. A less formal favour may have something more personalised and home-made than one that is more formal.

Budget

The budget can play a big part of the decision making process. Weddings cost enough as it is and favours just add to it. Favours need not be expensive if you are on a budget. You can easily make your own favours or rather than buying ready-made favours, you can buy yourself DIY favour boxes. This saves money though you have to assemble the favours yourself. This is a great way to make savings.

Bride & Groom

Think about the bride and groom and what their interests are, how they met etc. With these aspects in mind, you can come up with an idea that reflect these personalities and bring them out in the favours that you give. An example is a friend’s wedding. This couple kept chickens in their garden and for their favours, the bride made her own little chicken-looking embroidery paperweights. They were really cool and a very nice personal touch. The only investment was some fabric and time to put it together.

Use your imagination and you can come up with some great wedding favour ideas without breaking the bank.

History of Wedding Favours

July 20th, 2010

Wedding favours have a long history and have traditionally been given as small gifts to wedding guests. It originally started in Europe as with many things with the Upper Class. In those early days, wedding favours were small trinket boxes made from materials such as crystal or porcelain. Inside would be sugar cubes or high quality confectionary. In those days, sugar was an expensive commodity and it showed the wealth and prosperity of the givers.

Of course, as the price of sugar came down, others started to follow the fashion first popularised by the aristocracy. They too started giving similar favours to their wedding guests. Over time, these favours were replaced with almonds to represent wellness in the bride-groom’s life. These almonds in turn became sugar-coated almonds.

Traditionally, the sugar-coated almonds are given in sets of 5. This is to represent fertility, wealth, health, longevity and happiness. These are usually presented to guests in simple but elegant favour boxes or favour bags. This is still a very common favour given to wedding guests the World over but things are changing and people are starting to get more inventive.

Nowadays you will still see sugar-coated almonds and other confectionary but you will also see more expensive favours such as crystals to lovely candle favours. These are the sign of the times and it is just another way for the bridegroom to thank their wedding guests. For those on a tighter budget, couples are becoming more creative and making their own favours and perhaps presenting them in a nice favour box. This can save on cost but still have a great effect by adding a lovely personal touch.

Whatever direction the fashion for wedding favours go, it is clear that they are extremely popular still and are here to stay. Wedding favours are a fantastic way for the bridegroom to thank their guests and it need not be an expensive exercise. A simple home-made favour presented in a lovely favour box can be a great gift to receive.

Important Tips On Shooting A Beach Wedding From An Hobbiest Point Of View. Get The Best Beach Wedding Photography When Invited To A Beach Weddingd

July 6th, 2010

There are many things to remember when invited to a wedding on the beautiful beaches of the emerald coast of Destin Fl and the surrounding areas. But the most important is Batteries. You camera Will NOt work with out them. As a professional beach wedding photographer I spend contless hours watching hobbiest take photo’s at beach wedding and most of the time witness them “shooting” the photo all wrong. In the following article I will provide many tips to help capture the best beach wedding photo to maybe give to the new couple as a wedding gift.

First lets talk about gear ….. camera’s. Here are my do’s:: Do bring the new DLSR you bought especially for the wedding with the 2 lens and the big flash and the oversized sling backpack. Don’t bring it to the actual ceremony!!!! What then why did I buy the fancy new Nikon!!! Trust me you are going to a wedding on the Emerald coast of Florida there will be 100’s of photo’s to take before the ceremony and after. But remember that “during” the ceremony you have been invited as a guest NOT TO WORK so act like a guest. If you would like to bring a small point and shoot to quickly and discreetly take a photo of the groom and bride and maybe the kiss that is great. Or better yet turn the volume off on your phone and use the camera on it.

During the ceremony pay close attention to the professional photographer. where is he/she standing – or they standing squatting lying on the sand? Are they moving fast to capture a quick smile or slowing “grabbing” every emotion. The reason to watch the photographer is because the photographers of the Sunshine state in Destin, Panama City, Navarre are use to the beach. they work countless hours on the beaches of Destin shooting beach weddings working with event planners and they know the right angel and the correct shot to capture.

after the ceremony go ahead and grab your big fancy new Nikon {we all know you didn’t leave it in the room} and take photo’s tons of them work the crowd get candid shots of the moms and the uncles and the kids running all over the beach. Take a few photo’s of some local beach goers. But do not go within 100 feet of the professional. It is fine to “watch” from a distance” to again gather tips of the trade. But whatever you do do not shadow or shoot the same poses. If and this is a big if!!! there is time after the photo shoot ask politely if few shots can be made for your studio. If not that’s fine go to the reception and blast away once again grabbing those candid moments.

To summarize – - Do bring your big Fancy Nikon {just not to the beach wedding ceremony} Do Not get in the way of the professional – and remember you are there as a guest let the hired help have a chance to do their jobs………and do not forget to have someone take a photo of you with a sunset on the beautiful beaches of the emerald coast.
